ENG Sunday Tribune, Dublin (may.2006)

Recorded in JJ Smyth’s fabled upstairs room for the adventurous Italian label Auand, this set captures three masters of improvisation during their Irish tour in 2002. All three emerge with their formidable reputations greatly enhanced. British saxophonist Julian Argüelles is inspired and is as generous as any rhythm section player. Bassist Ronan Guilfoyle is the agent provocateur and the rock around which the music pivots. And leading US drummer Jim Black beats an astonishing range of noises, always with a profound sense of groove. By turns scorching and lyrical, sweet and sour, this is a tour de force of saxophone trio playing.
